Guru Nanak Jayanti 2020

Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Utsav, is one of the sacred festivals of Sikhism. The day marks the birth Anniversary of the First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Guru Nanak Jayanti 2020 will be celebrated on 30, November 2020. It is 551 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

 

Gurpurab Significance and Celebrations

Guru Nanak Ji, the founder of Sikhism was born on Puranmashi of Kattak in 1469 in Nankana Sahib. The celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti begins few days prior to Kartik Purnima.

Akhand Path: Two days before the Guru Nanak Jayanti, a forty eight hour non-stop reading of the Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji, The holy book of Sikhism, is held in Gurudwaras.

NagarKirtan: A day prior to the Gurpurab, a procession known as Nagarkirtan is organised, led by the Panj Pyaras carrying Sikh flag and the Palki (palanquin) of Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

Gurupurab Day: The day begins with the morning hymns, followed by the combination of Kathas and Kirtans in the praise of the Guru. All day Community langer (food) is organised for the people followed by the prayers in the Gurudwaras.
